Inside Line Promotions – ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. (Aug. 8, 2023) – Joey Amantea earned his 20th career top-five finish with the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars last Saturday at Lincoln Speedway.
The night began with a charge from fifth to win a heat race.
“The heat race was great as we went from fifth to first and won by two seconds,” he said. “Come feature-time we tried something and the car didn’t come in until the middle to end.
“We had a medium right tear on. When a track slicks off or looks like it will take rubber we’ll throw a medium on. The track was just fast enough to run an H or D15 and still be competitive.”
Amantea lost a few positions before rebounding in the second half of the race to capture the fifth-place result, which was a career best at the track.
“We fell to ninth for a few laps,” he said. “It was really hard to pass and make up ground. I was running the top the whole time. It was basically wait until the tire pops off.
“It was not a bad night, but it wasn’t what we were hoping for after such a strong heat race. But it’s tough to be frustrated whenever you get a top five.”
Next up for Amantea is a return to Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Va., this Saturday. Amantea finished a season-best second at the track earlier this year.
“Winchester is always rubber around the bottom so it’s key to start near the front,” he said. “Hopefully we continue to have a fast race car and will have some luck on our side.”
