Amantea Nets Top Five at Winchester Speedway as Big Weekend Nears

Inside Line Promotions – WINCHESTER, Va. (Aug. 14, 2023) – Joey Amantea captured his ninth top-five finish of the season last Saturday during a Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars race at Winchester Speedway.

A runner-up result in a heat race earned a spot into the feature inversion for Amantea, who lined up on the outside of the third row in the A Main.

“Unfortunately, it was rubber from the heat race,” he said. “It was impossible to pass. First through sixth was bumper to bumper the whole race without passing. I was able to capitalize on other people’s mistakes to get a couple of positions. The guy running fifth ran the top on the last lap so that gave me fourth.”

The fourth-place result was Amantea’s seventh top five with the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars this season.

Next for the team is a three-race weekend featuring Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series shows on Friday at Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg, Ohio, and Saturday at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio.

Amantea earned a fifth-place finish at Hilltop Speedway and he was in contention for a top five before a late-race crash resulted in a DNF at Wayne County Speedway during a weekend doubleheader in May.

“We were fast both nights when we were there a couple of months ago,” he said. “Both tracks were pretty racy and you could run the bottom, middle, top. You could make things happen. We have a fresh bullet under the hood so hopefully that helps, too.”

This weekend concludes with a USAC East Coast Sprint Car Series race on Sunday at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa. He placed fourth at the track last month.

“We have our other motor in that will hopefully fix a recent stumbling,” he said. “I know we can win. It’ll be a matter of track position and timing.”

Amantea enters the race ranked third in the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars championship standings.
