Inside Line Promotions – DELMAR, Del. (July 4, 2023) – Joey Amantea tied a career-best run at Delaware International Speedway last Friday with a third-place showing.
It marked his third podium of the season with the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars.
The night began with Amantea hustling from third to win a heat race at the dirt oval.
“In the heat race we had the dominant car, which is really good to have after the struggles during Eastern Storm,” he said. “We were fast from the drop of the green. I think we threw a slider for the lead and set sail from there.”
The feature inversion lined Amantea up on the outside of the second row.
“The first half of the race we were really fast,” he said. “We challenged Alex (Bright) for second most of it. We all spread out a little bit. Once (Briggs) Danner caught me we battled for a few laps before he went on to win. We cooked our tire too quickly so that hurt us, but a podium finish is something we can be happy about. We’re knocking on the door of our first win of the season soon.”
Amantea will be off this weekend before resuming competition with the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars on July 12 at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa.
