Inside Line Promotions – Mt. POCONO, Pa. (Sept. 13, 2023) – Joey Amantea is planning to make his 410ci winged sprint car debut this weekend during a pair of races in Central Pennsylvania.
The team is heading to Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg on Friday before venturing to Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove on Saturday for the Jim Nace Memorial National Open.
“The expectation is to go out and have a good time,” he said. “We want to make some solid laps and have fun. We have seven or eight winged races planned the rest of this season.”
Amantea has a handful of 360ci winged sprint car starts, but none since November 2021. His best result was a 10th-place outing.
It has been a fruitful season in a non-wing sprint car as Amantea ranks third in the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars championship standings despite missing multiple races. He also recently produced a career-best ninth-place run with the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars.
“I’m ready to branch out,” he said. “A lot of the wingless guys do both. Based around the USAC National schedule there’s so many breaks you could go winged racing. If I really want to make this a career I really need to do both and do both well. We’re taking the first deep dive into it this weekend.”
