Inside Line Promotions – MILL HALL, Pa. (May 23, 2023) – Joey Amantea is bound for Virginia this weekend for a Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars show.
The series invades Winchester Speedway in Winchester on Saturday for the first of two trips this season. It’s a track where Amantea has seen success, but is seeking his first top five.
“Last year the track was great,” he said. “We were running third and ultimately ended up getting in a wreck battling for second. If the track will be like it was we’ll have tremendous speed so I’m pretty excited to get back there.”
Amantea posted a pair of top 10s at the dirt oval in 2021, highlighted by a career-best seventh-place result.
The team is coming off a top-10 showing last Friday at Clinton County Speedway, where Amantea earned a heat race victory to start the program.
“We got the heat race win, which was cool,” he said. “We were challenged for the lead for three or four laps and then I kicked it into high gear. We ended up pulling away a bit. We had speed out of the gate.”
The feature redraw lined Amantea up on the inside of the second row for the main event.
“Come feature-time we were in a position to battle for the lead like last year and we just missed it,” he said. “We struggled. In one lap we fell to seventh. We battled from seventh to 10th most of the race. I made a couple of mistakes trying to pass cars. Between that and the handling it was not our greatest night so we’re looking forward to moving on to the next race.”
