Inside Line Promotions – SWEDESBORO, N.J. (Nov. 1, 2023) – Joey Amantea produced a top-five result with the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars last Saturday during the season finale.
Amantea’s fourth-place finish at Bridgeport Motorsports Park was his 13th total top five this year and ninth during USAC East Coast Sprint Cars competition, which was the second most.
“We had good speed,” he said. “In the heat race, we won it to make the feature inversion. In the feature our car was coming in. We were running third and got a hole in the center of the tire and it was gradually losing air every lap. It pretty much made it super tight on the cushion. I had to figure out how much more sideways I could get before spinning out. It made it very difficult.”
Amantea hung onto a podium position for most of the remainder of the race before dropping to fourth at the end.
“The fact we finished and where we did showed my improvement as a driver,” he said. “If this happened a couple of years ago I probably would have demolished the car.”
Amantea ended the season third in the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars championship standings despite missing multiple races.
He also competed in a 410ci winged sprint car last Saturday. After mechanical woes during Friday’s practice night, Amantea hopped into Bob Lilick’s sprint car to race on Saturday. Unfortunately, it was short-lived as Amantea was involved in a crash on the opening lap of a heat race.
“I want to thank Bob Lilick for letting me run the car,” he said. “I was coming off the bottom and someone was coming off the top and we met in the middle. It was a racing deal. I was like a parasail through the sky. That was not good.”
